The Laird Solution was Matty Laird's answer to the Travel Air Mystery Ships, with the second aircraft (model depicted here) having a much more powerful mark of the P&W R-1340 Wasp radial engine. Jimmy Doolittle used this aircraft to place first in the 1931 Bendix Trophy race, but after being modified with retractable landing gear was lost during the race the following year.
